Registration Info

Race Categories

There are four race categories in which a team can run:

  • Mixed 12 Person: Mix of men and women, minimum of 6 women
  • Women's 12 Person: Mostly women, minimum of 10 women
  • Men's 12 Person: Mostly men
  • Ultra 6 Person: No more than 6 runners, gender irrelevant

The team captain can personally change the race category anytime before registration closes. Once registration is closed, an email must be sent to the race director to request the change. You may email us at

There is also a bonus division built into the race! On every team, there are two runners who will run a marathon over the course of the relay (only applies to 12 person teams). These runners will be competing against each other for the "fastest marathon time."

Every runner receives a technical race t-shirt and a finisher's prize. In addition, every runner gets the opportunity to participate in a unique overnight relay, running across all six New England states. There will be plenty of directional signs, safety signs, and course support for your safety.

Registration Deadline
Registration closes on June 1st, 2013 or whenever the race fills up. Individual registrations (i.e. adding runners to your team) must also be completed by June 1st. After that, changes or additions to the team can be made on the day of the race at check-in.

Limit on Number of Teams
We will limit the number of teams. Please register early to reserve your team's spot.

As mentioned above, every runner receives a finisher's prize. Usually this is a medal, but we have a unique and special surprise for you instead!

The team that has the fastest overall time in each of the four divisions (Mixed 12, Women's 12, Men's 12, and Ultra 6) will each receive free entry into the following year's edition of the New England Relay.

Special Team Requirement
Because of the extended length of the course (it’s the longest 24-hour distance relay in the U.S.!), it is recommended that teams average a pace of 9 minutes per mile in order to complete the event while the finish line is still open. This does not mean all runners on a team must run faster than 9 minute pace. In fact, you could easily have a 10:00 pace runner and a 7:00 pace runner on the same team. It just means that the average pace of all runners over the course of their legs should be 9:00 minutes/mile or faster. Should  your team run a pace slower than this during the event, regular teams will be asked to have concurrent runners (more than one person running their leg at once); and ultra teams will be asked to skip a leg or two.

How to register
We have partnered with Racewire to provide online registration.  To register, click here!

Once logged in, you can choose your race category, create your team name, enter your individual information, and pay…all in a few easy steps.

  1. First, select the create team option under the Sub Events heading.
  2. Enter your initials after reading and accepting the waiver.
  3. Create your team name in the next box.
  4. Select Sub Event you would like to particpate in.

  9. Enter credit card and billing information.
  10. Lastly, select the proceed to check out box at the end of the page.
  11. You are done!!

Once your team has been created, direct your runners to the same registration page. They will also have to login (so they can change their personal information), then they can choose to join an existing team from a dropdown.

For both team captains and individuals joining a team, the following information will be required:

  • First Name & Last Name
  • Birthdate & Gender
  • Email Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Emergency Contact Information
  • Estimated 10k time
  • How you heard about the relay
  • T-shirt size

Please note: The average of your team's 10k times is used to determine the order in which your team will start the relay. We will be organizing the start times so that all teams finish around the same time, so please be as accurate as you can with this time. This will ensure a smooth finish. DO NOT "sandbag" your time to try to control your start time. Any team who does so and arrives at the finish more than 2 hours earlier than their projected time will be disqualified.

Race handbooks and detailed course maps will be sent to all team captains 30 days prior to the event.
